After meeting in a reformatory in the mountains of West Virginia, the members of The Fadge (Talawandra Nesbitt, Twing Liddy, and Jaun Crocier) took a blood oath at age 12 to the rule the world and kill everyone who wasn’t a hot girl. To accomplish this feat they tried to master the arts of mind control and hypnosis, but they couldn’t. They did, however, join the reformatory band and quickly realized that through music they would be able to accomplish their goal of world domination through mind control. Unfortunately life and many bad decisions would stand in their way. So after twenty years of various jail stints, addictions, recovery programs, relapses and more recovery programs the members of The Fadge finally recorded their first self-titled demo of all original compositions simply titled “The Fadge.” Talawandra Nesbitt reminisces:
The night we recorded “The Fadge,” we had not yet come up with a name for the band. While writing down the chord progression for the first song on the album, we discovered that the chords (in order) spelled “F-A-D-G-E.” The three of us agreed that we would use this new word as our band name and that all of our songs should only include these five chords as a kind of secret mantra to the universe. Our goal was to penetrate the collective mind of our audience with a sense of peace and openness that would allow our message to take root. We felt that this discovery was a divine message from the cosmos, sent to aid our mission. It was only after endeavoring under this brand for several months that a friend from overseas informed us that “fadge” is in fact British slang for “vagina.” This further confirmed our earlier assumption that there were forces outside of our control guiding us along in our quest. It’s no accident that many of our songs deal with this same subject. We write a good bit about the television show “Miami Vice” as well. It was one of our favorite shows as children growing up in West Virginia.
With every album the Fadge take new risks musically and conceptually. The albums are usually done from start to finish within 3 days (another tenet set by their mysterious mystical philosophies) during an intensive spiritual trek that usually involves the non-stop background clatter of Girls Gone Wild videos and an assortment of alcoholic beverages.
Nesbitt: People think it’s a joke, but it’s not. We have struggled our entire lives to be taken seriously as artists and only recently have people begun to see the bigger picture of what we are about and what we are trying to do creatively. I dare say that one day a song like “O Doretha” or “Pussy So Fine” will be held in the same esteem as “Blowing in the Wind” or John Williams’ work on the Star Wars soundtrack.
You should beware that listening to The Fadge is a form of mind control that could result in death or injury. That is unless you are a hot girl.
